Really?

Really what?

Really a bear? Yes, one of two cubs up a tree beside our back deck, mother bear below.

Really an iPad? Yes, and she got some good video, as did I with my FX1000 "real" camera. Plus stills.

The REALLY funny thing is that just now as I was composing this reply I got a call from our neighbour warning me the same three bears were right on our front doorstep eating fallen walnuts. I was able to grab a camera and get some really close video from just above them.

Then I'd had enough. When bears get unafraid of humans like this they are dangerous, particularly with cubs, so I grabbed a fire extinguisher that I'd been meaning to test or replace for some time (it is about 20 years old), and blew white mist over the three. Mum took off, cubs went into my garage, and soon they all went up the road to a neighbour.

I should have had the presence of mind to try shooting more video with one hand while triggering the extinguisher with the other, as that was quite a sight.

Really that close to a bear.

Yes, about 10 ft. but there was air between camera and the top of the tree, so quite safe.

I did too and was stunned. My first thought was "What's this person going to do next...take a selfie with the bear?" LOL...

I did too. As someone who often deals with bear visitors, I thought her life must have been in real danger.
