All the world's indeed a stage and we are merely players performers and portrayers.

Oh No, camera strap round the neck + camera on tripod = potential of 100% disaster

Tons of enthusiasm, loads of kit, limited skill...

??? Explain, please.

I do this when I am not sure about the stability of my tripod: when the tripod slips at least the camera is not dropping. Can't see any other "danger".

My name is Henk. and I believe "It is all in the eye of the beholder....."

Got distracted looked over shoulder - oops! Everything falls over. Step back a pace to check the scene - oops everything falls over. Etc etc

Stability of the tripod? Get a decent tripod and set it up properly! My tripods frequently have to help balance / help support me let alone a little 1 series camera and long lens.

Not having a go at you but when I was learning I used to do this with the crappy Manfrotto I had at the time and it is a recipe for a damaged Credit Card :-)

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

Last week's game.

I was at a spot in SE PA a few years ago to photograph the eagles migration. One of the gents who was a regular photographer at the sight looked around and said, "It looks like another million dollar day." I asked him what he meant and he explained that there was probably a million $$ worth of equipment there that day. He wasn't far from the truth, the river was elbow to elbow with photographers as far down stream as you could see. I really wish I had taken a few shots of that crowd.
