I myself think that the gaffer tape draws even MORE attention to the camera. It really makes it stand out because you don't usually see a bunch of gaffer tape on a camera.

But maybe that's just me.

Mine looks sweet, but that's just me :p
(it really also doesn't stand out this much in real life)

I could careless if I was rocking a Canon or Nikon or any other brand as it has nothing to do with endorsing/sponsoring. And there is no doubt about making a big black camera something else but I feel by at least covering up the brand, it will eliminate the discussion about what type of camera or brand it is.

*couldn't care less

The thing is, those that are likely to even care what brand it is will still be able to tell it's a Canon. Either you're grabbing at straws or you highly over estimate the general public's knowledge of photography.

Without a lens it could almost be mistaken for a handbag at a distance, although I'll assume by the name Jamie you're a male. I guess you could always use a pinhole or something like the 40mm f/2.8. I like your idea of sealing the gap between the grip and body and taping the screw wheel though.

lol @ eliminating discussion on brands...dude, I've been in 12 countries this year, and shot my way through a crap ton of pictures...NO ONE has tried to discuss my camera with me, certainly not the brand. (Every now and again I get the "wow, that's a big lens" or "that's a serious camera", but that's it).

The only attention I've gotten has been people hanging around (especially in China...not sure why, but it happened there the most) waiting to see how my long exposure shots turn out. I set up the tripod, trip the shutter and I almost invariably had a small crowd gather and wait for the end result...once the picture materialized on the LCD, they gave me the thumbs up and moved on.

Let's be honest...putting gaffer tape on your camera is just an attempt at trying to "look cool" and looking like a badass rebel gonzo photographer...

if someone wants to put tape on his/her camera then let them be. if anyone wants to paint their camera hot pink or w/e color then so be it. who are you to judge? there's no harm done.

Yikes...

It worked! At first I thought you posted a picture of a cup of tea. In fact, my initial reaction was to say "dude...this is "show us your camera" not "show us your cup of tea"...certainly doesn't look like a camera now, good job!!! Maybe you should put gaffer tape over the badges of your car and make people think it's an office chair!! No one will ever figure it out!

So, it's not a cup of tea?

Sure they can do what they want, but just because it doesn't harm anyone doesn't mean we can't judge what they do and question their reasons for doing so. You should see what I've done to my camera, no one's going to stop me but they're free to judge it and say it looks like ****.

I'm me...I can judge whatever the heck I want. That's the beauty of having a functioning brain capable of thinking! I always hate that argument...if you don't want your camera judged, don't show it off. If you show it off, be ready for both positive and negative comments...simple as that.

Ugh...such a dumb thing to say. I mean, honestly...enough with the Nikon sucks, Canon's awesome stuff. For what it's worth, the D800 is an awesome machine and the D600 is going to mop the floor with the 6D. Also, if someone gave me a D4, I wouldn't say no. Oh, and that D7000's one heck of a little machine too...open your eyes.

I think this whole debate over tape vs no tape is useless.

And to say it is a poser thing almost sounds offensive. I've been around many photojournalists that have done this either for the same reason or not, but I'm sure it wouldn't be so they would look more bad ass.

I prefer my camera to be one solid shade and I feel that having the logo tapped makes it less distinct whether it actually it does or doesn't.

Seriously, how does showing off your camera become a whole debate over a simple personal choice?

Let's move on already.
