I recently purchased a Sigma 50mm. I know there are bad copies. It looks like I got one. Please advise. This photo was shot with a T21

Ha ha...It seems to focus fine at longer length just not up close.

This was focus on the center of the box.

This one focused on the center of the sign.

It seems to be off when there are objects of multiple depths.

Can you set up something with strong contrast like lines or text with black/white and under good lighting conditions just to try to eliminate variables?

Read Roger's take here http://www.lensrentals.com …a-50mm-f1.4-hsm-for-canon (external link)

Basically, if you are too close or to far away... You can also use liveview when it does not focus using phase detection. Liveview does not care.. Up close, for example, shooting liveview helps quite a bit.

Looks to me like it focused on the bottle that is on the brick and the brick. Also the bottle in the center looks like the bottom is in focus. Maybe something to do with shallow depth of field?

Looks like we have the issue/non issue.

I had two sigma 50's in the past. Both had to be sent back due to focus issues.
