Not sure I follow the logic here...the problem was with the lens, not the camera. Tamron has rectified the situation. Hope your happy with the older technology though!

I had this EXACT same problem with my t4i and tamron 24-70.

I returned the tamron. Got a sigma 17-55 2.8 OS and it doesn't have that problem. Likewise none of my canon lenses do that either.

Canon T4i, EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II, Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II, Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 OS, Canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S IS STM Lens. 430exII speedlite. Canon G11 PnS.

Same Problem,
I have already returned the tamron 24-70 Di VC f2.8 lens because it had 2 scratches on the front element but i did notice that the battery drains drastically when kept with the lens.
canon t4i (65od) when coupled with tamron 24-70 VC lens loses its entire battery within a day or two even if the camera is turned off. Let us say you are using it with the VC turned the battery dries up fast too. Hopefully the new copy that i am going to receive today is an updated one and it doesnt have this issue or other known issues of this lens like, front/backward focussing, too slow AF, non working VC and it doesnt use all the AF points of the canon 5d mark 2/3 especially the far left and far right.

I've solved the problem!

Leaving your 650d 'ON' and wait for automatic switch off (can be set in the menu) with the Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC, results in no battery loss!

Works for me at least :)

Hi all,

I am having this problem with my Tamron 24-70mm VC lens and my Canon 6D.

I returned one Canon 6D already thinking it was the camera. Now I know that it could be the lens. I have loaded a new fully charged battery and I am going to wait and see if this one drains too.

Any other 6D owner having the same problem?

I got 2 such battery draining copies of tamron 24-70mm and finally after a 2 month struggle with them i am getting a lens of lesser value canon 24-105mm from the vendor+tamron together. I paid 65k for this lens and i suffered for 2 months and now i am getting it exchanged for a canon 24-105mm

I've seen this reported before, soon after their release, and it was the main reason I decided to get a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 HSM rather than the Tamron. I bought a T4i (650D) for the wife when they were released and was then after a 24-70 and was going to go with the Tamron for the VC but then heard of this problem. It might be worth contacting both Canon and Tamron to see if they can suggest a work around that will eliminate the problem.

Here is another test worth trying. Switch off the Camera then dismount the lens for 30 seconds then reattach the lens and leave the camera switch off over night to see if there is any power drain.

I'm suggesting this to see if physically removing the lens after powering off the camera will break the electronic circiut that is causing the drain and if it remains so even once the lens has been reattached and the camera being left off for a long period.

The other thing is that maybe this problem is only on your copy of this lens.

This is not just his camera/lens. I have a 4Ti with a Tameron 24-70 lens and the battery goes dead as he describes.

It's a Tamron issue. the lens will kill all new 2012 Canon bodies...4Ti, 6D etc. Requires a trip to Tamron to be corrected but they're aware of it and will fix it. But hang in there guys. In the long run you'll love the lens, especially the VC.

Hi,
I have a Tamron 24-70 and recently I bought a Canon 6d camera. I have the same problem. The Tamron's serial number is 010***. Do you know what can I do? Is any firmwire update or I have to replace my lens?

Thanks!

So are ALL Tammy 24-70's affected? Or are newer ones ok. And if it's doing this to the batteries, what's it doing to the cameras circuits? I own a 600D and wonder if it is affected. I have an older Tammy 28-80 (no VC) and wonder if the combo is ok, or is just the new phase detect sensors?

Sent my lens to Tamron , they updated the firmware and it works fine now. No battery power loss when left on. Does it suck, yes. Just send it to Tamron, they know about the issue, the only thing I didn't like was not having my favorite lens for a few days

I have a T3i and just bought a 70-300 vc last week. I'm wondering if I will also suffer this fate?

Leave your cam on overnight and find out, hopefully it doesn't.
