Redundant q but, would you bring your dslr to the beach?

I have a 5d mark2 , and a 24-70l with a Hoya filter equipped to it. Should I bring this to the beach? I'm in south jersey, ocean city. My vaca house is on the beach, I can walk 100 yards and I hit it. I'm not going to be near the water, but mainly a good 50 yards from it.

Any advice?

I've taken mine to the beach several times. If there's a lot of wind, be careful changing lenses as sand or salt air can get inside, but otherwise, everything is weather sealed, so shouldn't have too many issues. Just keep it out of the water!

My old 5D classic isn't weather sealed but has been to the beach plenty of times, with no problems whatsoever. Just be sensible when changing lenses, so as not to get blown sand inside, and you'll be fine.

Took my 40D with the 17-55 this last weekend and got good some good photos of the family at the beach.

sure, i do this all the time. if you bring a tripod, don't retract the legs until you've had a chance to rinse them off.

Correct , I live on a Island so I am at the Beach all the time with a Camera or 2 .

I've been to the beach with mine but I wouldn't change lenses while there.

With proper care, you can shoot on the beach with no issues - I even change lenses at the beach sometimes (but more often, I take a couple of bodies with the lenses I'm planning on using on them so I don't have to do so). The biggest issues you have to concern yourself with are sand and salt spray. Wipe your camera down with a slighty damp lint free cloth before you put it away, clean your len's exterior in the same manner. If you did get sand on the camera, blow the sand off first before wiping it down and that will help to preven the sand from scratching the exterior.

Dunno about sea spray but I've changed lenses in the middle of a sand desert (on a 20D) and as long as you use a bit of common sense - like avoiding wind or at least keeping your back to it - you're fine changing lenses too.

Was just at the beach with my rebel this weekend, shooting a fishing tournament sor kids. Like others have said, be careful and use common sense. Especially if you are going to be done along the surf, as the waves can surprise you. All is well then boom, waist deep wave....

I took this photo using a tripod on the shortest setting while sitting in a couple inches of water. I was a little worried, but the Rebel XS and 100-400L never got wet.
