If you've seen my previous thread, you saw this is my first attempt at Astophotography. I got to doing some googeling and decided to take a stab at stacking.

Well, I think I got the hang of it. Here is an image composed about about 24 shots. During the stacking script I selected "Lighten" and started playing around to get a result I liked. On the very first image I was messing with the filters and selected "Pin Light" and got this very pleasant result. Happy accident
It really killed the super harsh lines in the sky as well as making the milkyway pop more.

My biggest concern is the haloing that is starting to show around the edge of the tree. Any suggestion on how to reduce that? I can only think of a blur tool, but it doesn't give me a clean result.

Thank you

why is the exif say Adobe RGB? Shouldn't it be set to sRGB if you're viewing it on the web? Would that be the problem?

Actually, the profile is embedded right? So maybe that wouldn't be the problem.

I don't really know much about color spaces, but I thought I'd ask about the AdobeRGB thing just in case.

The downloaded jpeg looks the same in PS and in the browser on my machine FWIW.

Thats weird. Right after I installed CS6 the first thing I did was set it to sRGB =/

I really like that. It puts a different twist on the idea.

so did changing it to sRGB fix the problem? I don't remember the colors well enough to compare it from memory, but the glow/haloing on the tree seems to be gone/less noticeable than the Adobe RGB version.

Yes, I switched it in "Set color mode" and put it in sRGB then adjusted it back to how I wanted it to look.

To reduce halos I use the clone tool, set the mode to darken and tweak the opacity to my liking. Be sure to adjust the angle of the clone tool to match the streaking of the stars.

Is the halo a result of the stacking, or your post? Too much unsharp mask or tonal contrast will do that. When I'm using excessive amounts of either, I'll mask through some of the original layer to reduce the halo.
