Saw this type of shot before on this forum so it's not very original. Was playing with my new 20D and new lens which came last night. This was also the first time shooting at ISO 1600. Shot was hand-held and get this - 1/25 @ f2.8 and available light from the laptop and a small incandesent lamp to her right. A little WB correction and noise reduction in CS2. Can't wait to try this lens out outside.

I just love how the light from the monitor plays off her face. Thanks for looking.

Awesome shot Bob. Like you, I really like the way the light from the computer screen is illuminating her face. BTW, she's a really cutie. :D

Very sharp pic. I also love the monitor light reflecting on her face and her expression.

Great shot from a great lens.
It will do wonders outdoors in good light, but it really shines when the light is low.
The IS really helps save some shots that wouldn't be possible handheld.
Hope you enjoy the lens and keep posting the results.

See, this is something I don't get. that's a perfect shot..nicely done. However, my main 20D SUCKS at high ISO. They're so noisy, it's nauseating. I try reducing the noise in CS2, but they're still awful. What's the deal? Could there be a problem with my 20D that's causing so much noise?

That shot doesn't look like it was done over 800 ISO max. Nicely done.

Ronald, I've never had any luck over 200 with my 350D. I typically do portrait shots and it's usually very noticable. This shot is noisy too. CS2 sharpening helped a little but the change is slight. I have noticed that USM adds noise so I wasn't able to sharpen this as much as I normally would. It also is not cropped. I was actually just fooling around and dialed up 1600 just because I heard the 20D handled noise better. I'm not yet totally convinced, but I've only taken a few shots so far.

that is a great shot, the other color on her face is great too, sometimes it does not look or work right but in this case it is very appropriate. great job.
