Thanks Rick. It's actually pretty easy, the hardest part is getting the water drops to be round. Basically a bowl of candy with a piece of glass over it. Clean the glass with Rain-X, which helps immensely to get round water drops. Spray water onto the glass to make the drops, then focus on the refractions in the drops.

Here's the setup...the glass is missing in the setup shot but it just sits on top of the two boxes.

It's better to be tripod-mounted but if you're steady enough you can do it hand-held, and either a macro lens or a lens with a really short MFD will work the best. My camera and flash settings vary...

1/250
f/8 all the way to f/22 - depends on how much of the drops I want in focus
ISO200-ISO400

Flash set to anywhere from 1/8th to 1/32nd power

If you try it don't get frustrated if your drops don't come out round, it takes a bit of practice with the Rain-X to get the glass to a state where the drops come out round. You want to use a sprayer with a fine mist for the water, anything too strong and the water will hit the glass too hard, which makes it go all kinds of goofy shapes.
