I think I have changed the level of sharpening in the camera from default to its max. I just dont know what kind of difference I am looking for. Should I be able to tell a big difference at 100% viewing for a straight from the camera Jpeg? Really I am unsure if I even changed anything or just thought I did.

Yes, I first took photos of a static object with the default setting, then the same object with the sharpening to max, same settings.

A dollar bill works well in this case as well.

Where are you making the comparisons? On the cameras LCD or on your monitor. If on your monitor is it a high def unit (1920x1080)?

What you ask- depends upon what you are shooting and the lens you are using. Let's say you have a kit lens, that might not be too sharp- then changing your picture styles ( the one you are using ) to sharper will help. Maxxing it out is probably overdoing it. The easiest thing is to reset the picture styles back to defaults otherwise- just reset the camera back to its defaults.

The LCD on the back of cameras tends to lie- how well a change like that does is only truly revealed on a monitor or in print. If you are looking for flexibility- you should be looking at using raw instead.
