I've been ok up to now with the OE Canon strap on my T3i. However in the last week I've gotten a new 24-105 and a 430EX flash. I'm also planning on getting a grip to balance things out some as well as to make the camera a bit easier to hold.

Anyway, the OE strap and me using the kit lens would bug me at times depending on how it sat on my neck. It is also not long enough to allow me to put it on one shoulder and have the camera on the opposite side under my arm. (like a woman's purse) The problem I see now is that the new combo of flash plus lens and possibly even grip is going to kill my neck if I keep using the OE strap.

So, I need suggestions as to what strap you guys use. It would need to be padded and I really don't care if it holds the top or bottom of the camera. Though after reading some of the posts about the blackrapid strap here I am hesitant to hang the camera by a single clip. Thanks in advance.

FWIW I already have a backpack to carry my stuff in but I need something specifically for shoulder/neck carry. (is the canon CPS strap longer than the standard ones you get with the cameras) Thanks in advance.

I use a Crumpler Industry Disgrace and I love it. Very comfortable

I have the OP/TECH USA Utility Strap-Sling on my gripped 50D and have had a 70-200mm 2.8 and my 430EXII hanging off of it without any problems. I used to worry about the plastic buckles with all the weight hanging from them but it has been good so far. I've had it on there for over 2 years and sometimes have the camera hanging from just one buckle.

Thanks so far guys. If I can ask, with the adjustment straps out, how long would you say the strap is? The Crumpler Industry item says it can adjust to "gangsta thigh hugger". (LMAO) and the OP/TECH one they show in the photo is with a female "model". Not terribly concerned about the plastic clips as all my military surplus packs use those and I've never had one pop loose.

The OP/TECH is long enough to allow the camera hang down below the waist and slightly behind me. It places the camera in a comfortable position and at the correct distance for my right hand to be able to quickly grab the grip and bring the camera up to my eye quick-draw style. I stand at 6' tall.

you can get extensions for the op-tech straps if they aren't quite long enough.

+1 love the Cinch as well, better than the Black Rapid as it stops the camera from swinging around, when cinched up. Also like the smaller connector for the tripod hole, doesn't get in the way when your hold the camera in potrait mode.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. :) I wound up ordering the OP/TECH Pro Strap plus a sling adapter as well as some extensions. The price plus versatility and ability to add on extensions and other items was a huge plus. I'm sure this will make the camera a lot more comfortable to carry around than it was with the OE strap.
