I have been asked to shoot a practice for my wife's team practice. I have shot still work for them but newer video. They want me to shoot from a launch along side them. Not sure how or if even possible to keep camera steady. Should I use my 10-22 or my 17-55 ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How close will you be to the boat? Are you going to be tracking them or just filming from a stationary spot? I'd generally say the wider you go, the less shake you will notice.

Unless you have a helicopter or $100k gyro stabelized lens…… You Dont? I would stick with Ganrtoris suggestion. Get as low in the boat as possible Stay as wide as possible and try no to get wet. I have shot water skiers from a boat its a nightmare as far as shake goes. I also wont say this at any other time but if you have something with "Steady-shot" Type technology This would be the one and only time I might try it. Good luck

First step........ Take the lens cap off.

brace the camera against something to help hold it steady. keep it wide and stay as close as possible. honestly even at 55mm you will not see a lot of shake unless you are on the boat with them and there are tons of waves.

honestly asking if you should use the 10-22 or the 17-55... both cover almost the same focal length just the 10-22 covers less but it wider. i seriously doubt you will want to shoot this at 10mm. so go with 17-55

if you are shooting from land then get a tripod and use your 70-200
