This may be a crazy question, and it may even be stupid. Please only call it crazy! I'm strictly a hobby photographer/filmmaker, so my understanding of certain aspects of my equipment is limited, and the following question comes from me not understanding where to even begin looking!

I just bought a Canon T3i, and I love it. A friend of mine told me she had a Canon video lens I could have. (she knows less than I do.)

The lens is a Canon zoom lens, model number VCL-915BYA. The other information listed below the model number says: J15x9.5B4 KRS II 1:1.8/9.5-143mm

I know better than to think it will fit directly onto my T3i, the mount is clearly different. I was wondering if there was a conversion I could do/buy that would make it mount up. I know I won't get any of the electronic control over the lens, but I just want it to mount.

Even if someone could just point me in the right direction. The mount end of the lens says F.B and NO. 11147.

I DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO LOOK

Thanks

Hi,

I don't have that lens or know much about it, but I bet it's made for a small sensor video cam and wouldn't give a large enough image circle to be used on even a crop sensor camera like the T3i.

Sorry, can't be much help!

You could do a format conversion with a relay lens system. But such systems are not very common. And not cheap.
I have done some experiments with normal lenses as relay lenses, but the results are bad, or even horrible.
So my best reccomendation is: Forget it :-)

thanks, guys, those answers are the kind of information i am looking for, but let me further clarify. I do not really mind if what kind of image the lens presents to the sensor, as much as i just want to get it to mount to the camera. I am interested in using it no matter WHAT the image looks like (it's part of my fun, don't judge me)

OK - no problem with this wish. I do such things now and then myself.
The image diameter is most likely much smaller than sensor diagonal - black borders or / and bad image quality. Probably only 10mm good image quality - and good is likely around 1 megapixel resolution in this area.

Other big problem is register distance. I found not which mount this lens has, seems bigger than C-mount. Probably it has longer register distance. Shorter register than Canons DSLR 44mm would make infinity impossible. Or do you have this new EF-M - that would make live easier!

Not sure if the lens is made for 3CCD camera - in this case it would be designed for a big glass-prism behind the lens - with lens aberration control for this glass prism. So without prism in your DSLR image quality will degrade.

No it's made for cameras with a different size sensor and mount depth and electronics. No options for using it.
