Could you PLEASE take a look at the left of your keyboard. There is a button there name Caps Lock. Disengage that so you will stop SHOUTING. It kind of HURTS when you SHOUT. 5DMk2 + BG-E6 | 40D + BG-E2N | 350D + BG-E3 + RC-1 | Elan 7E | Minolta Dimage 7U | (Gear thread)

Back in the old days, earlier models were slow to wake up so we set the sleep mode time fairly long... so the camera would wait until it's been idle for 5 or 10 minutes before going to sleep. This, among other things, made those cameras pretty hard on batteries. We didn't get nearly as many shots per charge as we do with more recent models. But these days, newer models like yours wake up so fast there's little reason not to set sleep mode to about 2 minutes, so the camera goes to sleep and preserves battery charge as soon as possible. Don't disable sleep mode, whatever you do. You also can help the battery(ies) last a lot longer by turning off automatic review of every image taken, or setting the display time to a minimum. The rear LCD monitor on the camera is one of the heaviest users of battery power. (The built-in flash might be the heaviest drain on batteries, depending upon if and how you use it.) Now, if you left the camera on and it didn't go into sleep mode, you might have seriously drained the battery(ies). Also it would drain the batts if you left it in Live View all night (I don't know if that's even a feature on the 400D, tho). Heavily drained batteries... or batteries that sit unused for a long, long time... might take several recharge/drain cycles to come back to a full charge. I've had that happen with the older BP511 batteries some of my cameras use. After a long period of disuse, they appeared fully charged, but only briefly powered up the camera before they were dead again. Repeating the charge and drain cycle several times brought them back to life and they work just fine now, though the first few times through they only gradually improved in performance. There's a possibility that the batteries overheated and were damaged, might never come back to life with repeated charges. I suspect that's more likely to happen with inexpensive "clone", 3rd party or non-Canon batteries. An overcharged battery also might be damaged... but again I suspect that it would be more likely with a non-Canon or 3rd party charger, than with an OEM that likely has some built in protectioins against overcharging. Leaving a camera in Live View might also overheat and damage the camera's sensor... in theory.... but I suspect there are built-in protections to prevent that. But, AFAIK, 400D doesn't have Live View option. If the battery(ies) and/or charger are new to you, they might be bad right out of the box.... I suspect that would be more likely with non-Canon items. Or if they were sitting on a store shelf for a long time they might not fully charge at first. it's hard to be sure, without trying a different battery that's been charged up in a different, known-good charger. Another thing you might try is turning the camera's power switch off and on a few times. If you just leave it on all the time (which I do with my cameras), it never gets moved and might get oxidization inside, that prevents proper power to the camera. Switches of this type are generally self-cleaning, though, when turned on and off regularly. Operate it a few times and see if that works. I'd consider trying a different battery and charger before anything else... particularly since they are brand new and if you know the camera has worked properly in the past. If none of these suggestions work, you'll need to have someone look at the camera itself. ok thanks for your help any way will let you know if i have any luck .

It's required, to make sure the batteries don't overheat and starts a fire. That is why there are extra contacts on all battery packs and not just a plus and a minus. 5DMk2 + BG-E6 | 40D + BG-E2N | 350D + BG-E3 + RC-1 | Elan 7E | Minolta Dimage 7U | (Gear thread)
