Didnt find any threads about this lens, if there is...Sorry

I´ve been looking at the Sigma EX 300/2,8 APO HSM DG, and think it seems really good. But is there anyone that got this lens and wanna say what you think of it and maybe post some pics?

Thanks// J.a

I think you're better off with a Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 OS. At least as sharp, OS and more flexibility. I own it myself and I am very happy with it.

Agree, 300mm prime sounds good on paper, not in real life.

I know that this one is on my wish list. It will be a while before I get it, but it is still on there..

I'm obviously biased, but I don't agree with you. The 300mm prime is a great lens.

The 120-300 OS is no doubt also a fine lens too, but that doesn't make the prime a bad lens. There is a review that says the prime is not as sharp as the zoom, but one review does not a bad lens make.

I'd have to disagree. I don't own either of these particular lenses, but I do have a 300mm prime, and it's a useful focal length.

Sorry I wasn't talking about primes in general. I was about sigma 300mm f2.8.

BTW - I shoot with canon 300mm f2.8 IS.:D

That doesn't make the prime a bad lens, of course not. But here in Belgium, the Sigma 300mm f/2.8 is more expensive than the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 OS when bought new, around 850 dollars more for the prime... So it was an easy choice for me :)

Had sigma 120-300mm non OS for a yr side by side with canon 300mm f2.8 IS. And have friends who shot with both sigms zoom and sigma prime. Personally canon 300/400mm f2.8 are in different class and that is why you pay couple $ thousand more for them.

From my experience , sigma lens don't work wells as the canons in ai servo mode. In one shot mode, the sigma 120 300 non os ,does well

Agree. That was my experience. Shooting running back coming at me, 120-300mm non OS failed while canon 300mm f2.8 IS had no issues. Camera 1dmk2. Still shots sigma zoom was as sharp as canon. I know we talking sigma prime not the zoom but dig some old threads and read reviews from folks who has sigma prime and sigma zoom.

On that basis it's a no brainier to go for the zoom. I got a good deal on my prime and find it to be a very good lens.

If I could afford a Canon 300 f2.8, then I'd be happy to get one. A tog for Getty Images lent me one once and it was pretty amazing. That was before I got the Sigma btw.
