Hi, I am new to digital cameras and have bought a Canon600D with EFS 18-55mm lens.
I have been offered two lens's from a canon Rebel 2000 300/300' First one is 28-80mm
and second 75-300mm. The camera they were used on is a film camera. Sorry if I seem thick but everybody has to start somewhere. This site was recommended because of its friendly members.

Regards Ray

Any lenses you use will need to be either EF-S mount or EF mount. IIRC a lot of film stuff was FD mount. Anyway, the 75-300 is a cheaper kit type lens. I don't know what the 28-80 is. Before you purchase anything, I would suggest (as was suggested to me) that you walk around and start taking photos of what interests you. Then decide from there what you need, vs what type of deal you can get. If you just like to shoot portrait type stuff then the 75-300 seems like a waste of money.

Heading of OP mail talks of Canon 70-300 IS lens while the mail talks of 75-300 lens. These are two different lenses. First lens is a capable lens and the second one NOT recommended on this forum.

Welcome to the forum.

The 75-300 is not a very good lens. If you need a budget zoom lens, the 55-250 is a great bang for buck telephoto lens with good image quality.

I have had all 3 of the lenses referenced here, in EF mount. The 28-80 is not much of a lens, but it is more than adequate to 'get your feet wet', but 85 is not that much different than 55. The 18-55 you already have is better. If the 28-80 is working well, you should be able to get some acceptable images out of it.

The 75-300, even if it is working well, is basically a paperweight. Take a few shots a 300mm, wide open. I'm sure you'll agree. If you are talking about the black 70-300 IS USM, that is a decent lens. I think most owners are quite happy with it. It focuses pretty quickly, has good IS,and is quite sharp at 300mm, if stopped down a bit. If you really are dealing with the 75-300, clean it up, shine it and use if for anything but taking pictures. The best budget telephoto going in the Canon EF-s 55-250. You can find it used for ~$160.

Actually, you can now find the EF-S 55-250 NEW for around that price. I have a used one that I'd sell for less though. ;)
