And then you look at the hundreds or thousands of dollars of stuff you are hanging from that strap...and suddenly it doesn't seem so bad.

A point that has been made countless times on this forum and yet continues to be ignored. Some accessories are priced really high for what they are but when you think of what it's protecting/supporting I'd rather pay the price. Tripods, ball heads and lens collars come to mind. Yeah, they're overpriced but how are you going to feel if a cheaper, inferior product fails and your gear hits the pavement? Will that $xxx savings be worth it then?

Yes, there are other straps that will carry a camera for less money but do they do what the Cinch can do?

We're talking $70 here fellas. Not a major investment considering...

Just do it and get over it.

I have the Luma Loop Gen2 and was quite happy with it. I was hesitate to purchase the Cinch because I didn't think it was "all that." Now my Loop sits in my bag as a backup. My only request would be a quick release mechanism.

Well after a ton of debating on sizes, I finally put my order in. :D I got a regular, and a membrane connector. Now the waiting begins.

speaking of quick relii

Where can I find some appropriately sized spring snaps? The kind that use a flat blade for the lock spring AND have a flat hook.

this is similar to what I'm taking about. there has to be a flatter version out there.

perhaps these could be made to work, like the old Luma Loop

There are numerous sources. The original design we were working on was a machined aluminum or titanium spring snap gate tailored specifically for camera use. In concept, a spring gate hook is simple, absolutely reliable, quick to get on/off and leaves the camera slick (no big bits dangling off like on our old Loops).

The big holdup: camera scratching. We found that in certain angles, using certain mounting points and on certain cameras (::cough:: Nikon D800s ::cough:: ) there was a decent chance that the camera would get marred. We machined the hell out of the edges, but the problem could still persist. Metal rubbing against plastic or powder coated magnesium is always going to win the wear battle, no matter how clean a radius you put on the edge.

So we bit the bullet and began working with some composite experts and the QR system we will be releasing before Xmass is built using a highly advanced carbon/glass composite polymer. These are lighter AND stronger than the machined designs we were working with and they can't possibly scratch your camera. The material we are working with is truly amazing stuff; I'm pretty excited to see what other applications we can cook up for it... it is like nothing I've ever seen.

In fact, I just signed off on tooling production this week.

The push button sling connector is something we have a lot of experience with, and a design I personally love. Downside though is that it is a LOT of metal and the system is heavy, bulky and annoying when you put two of them on your camera. We have a great manufacturing partner that built the Luma push buttons and we wish the design could have been made to work with the Cinch; in the end, it was a far from optimal solution, so we weren't going to go in a direction with that many compromises.

Will this QR system be backwards compatible? In other words, will I be able to purchase from Luma a kit to attach to my current Cinch to use the QR system? Or will it only be available on a new version of the strap?

Good question. I was 'assuming' it would work on the current Cinch strap....

Basically, it is a spring gate clip, so it will be compatible with the current Cinch. The other side of the equation is the associated bits that provide the means to clip onto the camera itself. For that, we've developed our own self-centering triangle split keys that work on both brackets (like Canon) and lugs (like Nikon and Leica). Those will be provided with the gate clips.

Also, the Luma QD kit basically turns any camera strap with 10mm webbing connectors into a quick release strap. So for those who are fans of the factory strap, Crumplers or UpStraps will be able to vastly improve their inferior straps with a bit of Luma kit... :D

If I like this strap as much as I think I will the QD kit will be next on my list. I look forward to finding out more information on pricing and a release date. Of course I'm more interested in getting that e-mail that lets me know my new strap is on its way. ;)

Awesome. Please put my name at the top of the list for the Luma QR kit. ;)
