I've got what I think is the original Cinch (ordered aug 2012). I'm looking for a solution for me to easily disconnect my strap from the camera, primarily for when I have it on a tripod.
I came across this post VERY early on in the thread:

It seems that solution could work, though I don't think I like the metal connector and risky scratching things - whether hanging or in storage. I've seen some other connectors from OP/Tech but it seems they are very light duty. If I'm adding an extra point of failure I definitely want it to be reliable!!!

- Is there any consensus that the newer loop/cinch are better than the original? Any other alternatives to the cinch?
- Any ideas how - if the system doesn't directly support it - that I could also easily attach the camera to my backpack? I have D-rings and strap loops (F-Stop Loka)... and I don't want the Peak Design Capture Clip...
Look at my post, several ahead of the one you linked. I show the loopit, the original cinch, and the loop mk1. The loop mk1 may be what you're looking for, as the quickrelease connector is 100% plastic--not likely to scratch up your camera. The mk2 loop is superior--with a really nice metal QR setup--harder to find that model, and it usually has a higher price. I saw a loop mk1 on ebay a few days ago...
The loop 3 is a nice cinch/loop combination, but obviously it lacks the old style QR connectors.
