I think I could use a loop to go with my Cinch 1 :)

You'll be waiting a while. Right now, the primary focus is getting Loop 3 out in the next couple of weeks. We just completed beta testing of L3 this week with Duncan and a few other photographers shooting TED2014 with prototypes. It went well enough that we released to manufacturing last Wednesday.

The goal was to make the Loop 3 far more stable and secure than the, ahem, other sling straps out there. An offset webbing slide keeps the camera positioned perfectly, big (captive) thumb screw makes taking it on/off easy and Cinch sliders allow you to tighten it while pulling the camera above your hip; it keeps the camera from picking up the movement of your leg and bouncing around annoyingly. Oh, and no fiddily bits to fail or quick release to accidentally unbuckle. And for those of you who missed Luma machining stuff... we're machining the hell out of this thing:

Being in the Tool & Die Machinist trade I see a lot of hours work there.... Can you tell us what these parts are for? Are they for assembly of the CinchIII or something else? These look like all identical separate parts to me...

What kind of metal are these made from? Just curious!

Loop 3. Cinch 3 hasn't even started yet.

It works thusly:

The body is 7075. They will be tumbled, light bead blasted and hard (type III) anodized in black. The thumbscrew component that mates into the body (it's captive with a stainless snap ring, no parts to separate/lose) is 6061 and clear anodized.

Ok...subscribing to this thread....looks like it's grown into a lot of up and coming useful information. I have the cinch 1 and loved that strap, just got a cinch 2 for my latest camera purchase, it's ok, but I still prefer the first version. Cannot wait however to see what Luma Labs has in the works.

This is so sexy, it should be labeled as NSFW.

Looks great! Have you set a price point yet, or is that still up in the air? (classified?!?! top secret?!?!?!)

This looks interesting. Appears to be more of a gliding mechanism rather than having the entire strap revolve.

The Loop is our single point (i.e. gliding) sling. The Cinch is our 2 point (revolving) design.

Just like with rifle slings; different designs for different applications, equipment, preferences.

A price that is worth every penny. I'll put it this way; the amount of machining and the materials used are not inexpensive, but they are totally worth it.

so, one cannot adapt a cinch to a loop, right? separate strap systems entirely?

They only thing they share is the 3/4" heavy duty webbing.

We experimented with the Cinch shoulder pad on the Loop, but found that it wasn't as nice. The Cinch pad is designed to slide when there is no pressure on it, and be grippy when you tension it with the cinch's sliding adjuster. With the Loop, the shoulder pad should stay in place and move as little as possible.

Like I said, it's just like rifle slings. Single point (i.e. connected to one point on the camera) slings like the Loop and Black Rapid are very fast, but trade speed for a bit of dangle factor when they are stored. Two point slings (the Cinch, your factory strap) are more stable, but not as fast or as flexible to carry. With the Loop, we are looking to improve on the stability of single point slings and eliminate people's concerns about having only one connection to the camera. There will always be different kinds of straps for different applications - different user preferences, gear and the environments where they work. There is, fundamentally, no single camera strap design that is suitable for everybody.

Just wanted to give Greg some props for awesome customer service. My Cinch V1 was starting to fray due to a sharp edge on the strap connector of my Arca Swiss plate. Once I got in contact with Greg, I sent my strap in and he immediately got me back out a new one with a membrane connector that remedied my problems with using the strap connectors on my Arca Swiss plate. I couldn't be happier! :D

Luma used to get back with me fairly quickly, but after three unanswered emails, I just gave up.

You would do better by contacting Greg here thru a Private Message.

Is it something you would still like to see answered? You do not need to answer that publicly, but I am sure Greg would like to know about.

We were having some issues with support email. A few folks hit up my personal inbox after no replies to support. If you want, email me directly and you'll be taken care of.

The issues with support@luma should be fixed (crosses fingers).
