Why would Newegg list this lens as Discontinued (external link)?!

I think it's just a Newegg thing. I've seen them use that word for items they don't plan on selling any longer, things they know they won't get a restock of for a while, or things that are just out of stock at the moment, but may come in stock soon. Basically it doesn't mean much.

Hm, I can't believe that would stop selling this particular lens ... weird.

It really could just be that they ran out, and rather than put "out of stock" they just chose "discountinued". They're not the most together outfit.

I think they hear you. It's listed as Out of Stock now.

I'm in Canada. Isn't that weird!

NewEgg is indeed an authorized dealer. see page 14:

I shop pretty regularly at NewEgg, and they do this all the time...They'll put "discontinued" when the item is actually out of stock.

About three weeks ago, I needed a CLI-8 ink set for my Pixma 9000 printer. It showed "dicontinued." at that time. I just checked again, and it now shows the ink in stock.

That said, I've always had good luck with them.

According to NE - the 70-200 f4 is also discontinued

The NewEgg internal code is discontinued, not the actual product. Pretty lame.

Discontinued means they don't want to take orders.
