Haha, oh maybe so... I guess most photographers might. :)
True, it's all about the person behind the camera. However, a 5d mk3 would be awesome, wouldn't it? Or a D800. :D I'm happy though...

It kinda sucks, knowing there's something newer and better...but here's the thing:
My equipment is still GREAT equipment, even though newer and shinier things have been released.
It may not be freshest out of the factory but I love what I'm able to achieve with the equipment I use.

And frankly, the clients don't care. They just want good photos.

Not really...or only if it's something I'm lusting after and the knucklehead that purchased it doesn't have a clue as how to use it.....

From what I see I get sad, not jealous. These beautiful big camera's (Not just DSLR) running on green box mode. I am emotionally moved to the point of offering them a trade or some quick tips so I can let that camera express itself to the world and be free.

I am not implying that Auto mode is beneath anyone, but I just hope one day that camera can spread its creative wings before the sensor grows old and dies.

But in response to jealousy I'd say no. I love getting great shots with cheap gear to remind me what truly matters :) .

I only get jealous when they start out-shooting me in less time than it's taken me to get happy with my own results :D But, then I just ask them to take me out shooting and give me pointer; then I get quality time with friends/family AND shooting time out of the deal :)

My sentiments exactly. I love my equipment. I'm very content with it all.

Higher level but same format... who cares... my teenage cousin was shooting a 60d when I had the lowly 30d... there was no way he could match me in quality of shot. If he were to shoot at a higher format like ff or mf, i'de be jealous. Upgrading bodies of the same format makes little difference.

I don't really get jealous, G.A.S maybe, but I actually find it fun to "photographer watch" while at events where there are other freelancers like myself. I try to sneak a peek at what DSLR they are using, and if so what model, what lens, etc. I just find it fun :) And even in the family members at these events, I've begun to see more and more T3's and Rebels in place of point-n-shoots that the grandmothers used to have in their hands in the past. In downtime at the events I spend it by checking out what brand (canon vs nikon) is in the hands of most people there. Its almost always Canon :D
