So I am getting divorced and the ex kept the 40D but I kept the glass. So I have a 70 - 200 f2.8 l, efs 17-55 f2.8, and a 100mm macro. So I am looking for a new body still only novice like ability liked the 40d. What would you all recommend between the 60d and 7d. I found a website that has a substantial sale for a few days so I am looking to purchase in the next two days.

Thanks.

As I am finding I like sports shooting, I just traded in my 60D today for a 7D. One of the first things I noticed is that I like the grip on the 7D better than the 60D. It seems to have just a little more depth for my fingers. While I am obviously still learning it, the AF was noticeably different with the 7D too. With that said, I can tell that I am going to miss the articulating screen and the lock on the mode dial from the 60D.

Image quality wise, my first set from tonight looks the same to my eye. Hope this helps or at least gives you something to think about.

7D. Faster autofocus for sports and birds in flight. 2 Digic 4's instead of 1 on the 60D. I have a 60D go for the 7D.

Although rumors are the 7D is about to be replaced, how much better will it be???

First off well done with keeping the glass :)
If you were happy with the 40D why not get an other one.(they are quite cheap second hand). Then you could spend the change on some more gear.

Pretty good advice. If you want new, i'de go with the 60d since the refurbished can be had for dirt cheap, and the functionality quite adequate. I'de probably get the 40d to hold me over, both at the end of their life cycles and will sink in price fast.

Really? Can you tell me tonight's winning lottery numbers with your crystal ball?

Nobody knows when the 7D's replacement will appear (at least nobody who is allowed to say anything). Indeed, many are suggesting that the appearance of Firmware 2.0 indicates that Canon have no plans for an imminent release of a MkII - otherwise they'd have kept those goodies reserved for the new model.

Anyhow, for the OP - It all depends on what you like to shoot. If it's things that move around quickly (wildlife or sport) then the 7D is the best option. For anything else I'd recommend saving some cash and getting the 60D.

Oh, and I own both bodies.

I'd rather buy a 50D than 60D

All bodies are, it's the digital age, I'm sure Canon already has a team on the 5DMkIV and whatever they will call the 1DXMkII; no longer are we in a world where the body lasts the photographer 10 or 20 years and is still considered current equipment.

Keeping the Glass shows the OP can understand this concept, and really I'd say if it's a recent divorce, let your budget be the guide and get the best you can inside a budget that is comfortable to you, if you really get into it then it will go longer before you outgrow the camera's capabilities.

If you learn toward sport or action the 7D will be a bit better with AF or if you get into off camera flash the 7D can be a master trigger for several canon flashes, if you lean toward video the 60D and the 650 (t4i?) may have an edge with some features geared more in that direction.

Thanks for the inputs I have thought of getting another 40d but I am worried about buying something this substantial second hand. I am no closer to making a decision then when I started this thread :(. I like landscapes and macro shooting the best. But still like to shoot birds and my daughters soccer games. If that helps guide any of your recommendations.

Thanks again for all your inputs.
