Hi, can we delete only raw on the SD card? sometime I need to free some place but dont want to delete the jpegs... however for a lot of photos I dont need the raw file.

Or maybe I should just buy another 32gb...

If anything you should possibly go the other way - shoot only RAW and stop wasting space on JPEGs in the camera (unless you have a really goo reason for requiring them).
Although in terms of long term plans - an additional card is possibly easier.

Having said that though... what do you do to fill an entire 32GB (which is possibly 28GB or so "real space" (in 2^10)) in a single shoot? That's an awful lot of photos... maybe try being a bit more selective? Or are you not clearing your card every time you get to your computer?

Clear your card everytime you goto the computer. It's what I do. I use Lightroom 4.1 to manage my photos and works great.

Keep that card empty, I've never had any issues filling up my 16GB... unless you take alot of video.

I am asking because next week I will go to some resort without a computer. 2 days. I will be with my wife parents and I wish to take a lot of pictures of them. Good quality pictures. i will shoot raw.

Also when waiting, it's a good time to clean up my pictures and delete the crap. For kids photos that are correctly exposed I might not wish to keep the raw file. Of course I will try to disable raw when I dont need it...

The 32gb old around 1100 18mp raw files. It should be enough I admit.

Anyway, it would be a nice option to have in the menu.

Invest in some more memory, should you live in the States, Best Buy starting Sunday 19 August has the SanDisk 16 GB SDHC Ultra Class 10 card for $20 (normally $40). The 8 GB is $15 (normally $25) and the 32 GB $30 (normally $70). In the advertisement they are shown as 30 MB/sec. I have also seen the "Extreme" cards on sale for about $5 more. Those cards are marked as 45 MB/sec.

+1 to John from PA. OP, you have $1,000+ camera equipment and only 1 SD card? What if it fails, or you drop it in your coffee? I have never filled up a 16GB card in a shoot. I came close enough to make me change a card, but never full. I carry 2 16gb and 2 4gb cards in my bag. Why? Because I don't want the lack of a $20 card to be why I couldn't shoot my $1,000 camera. Go buy another card. Or two.

Yes, you can sort images by type and easily remove raw images either in camera or with the SD card plugged directly into your PC using Windows Explorer (file manager not IE). To do it in camera you must first have Canon's software installed so the camera will be recognized.

Use Windows Explorer in the folder where the images files are located. Do a search (upper right hand corner of WE) for *.CR2 and all your raw images will appear. Windows recognizes the asterisk as a wildcard and will pull up all file names for the raw images.

Personally I prefer to dump all images to my PC and do a quick format on the SD card (in camera) to clear all images. I find the sorting/deleting of images on my PC to be easier, quicker and less error prone.

I'm with the other guys on the recommendation to pick up an additional card or two. The cost is low compared to the cost of losing images.

First, memory cards are relatively cheap. Get a second one. (Hell, I take fourteen 8GB and two 16GB memory cards to a typical photoshoot... plus I have another two or three dozen smaller, older cards, if I fill all the others, though that's rare.)

Next, shoot RAW only and save space. If shooting RAW+JPEG, that fills up cards pretty fast. You can always make a JPEG from a RAW... you can never make a RAW from a JPEG. I'd rather delete JPEGs, than the RAW!

On 32GB, you should get around 1100 to 1200 RAW files. Will you really take that many of your in-laws?

Finally, you can individually delete known-bad images to recapture some available space, just browsing through them on your camera's LCD monitor. I'm always reluctant to do that because I've learned that the tiny screen on the camera really doesn't tell you all that much, very well... I'd rather not delete anything until I've seen the images on my editing computer monitor... much larger and on a color calibrated screen.

If you will be doing a lot of image reviewing and editing, be sure to take spare batteries and/or charger... Using the camera's LCD monitor is a heavy drain on the batteries.

Thinline, your sorting and selecting using Explorer will work... but only if the camrea is connected to a computer or the images are downloaded to a computer. The OP isn't going to have a computer available. There's no easy way to single out certain images for deletion in-camera, other than selecting and deleting them individually. (Some cameras allow you to tag or lock images, and you could then delete the unlocked ones... but by the time you do that you might as well just delete the ones you are leaving unlocked).

But I see that a Lexar 32GB Class 10 SDHC card is selling for $25 at B&H photo... or you can get a two-pack for $45... So, seriously, I'd just buy some more memory cards.
