I did it! I just ordered my first "L" series lens. The 70-200mm f/2.8L . I got it "lightly" used on ebay for $950 shipped. The seller has 100% feedback @ over 7,500. Anyone ever buy from spotlightphoto. I guess it is really too late but I am still curious. http://cgi.ebay.com …?ViewItem&item=7573700861 (external link)I was curious if this sounds like a good deal or is it just about right or worse, am I paying too much. Opinions wanted. Looking forward to the fever.

Sounds fine to me. Price wise its closer to the 70-200 f4 than the f/2.8 IS which should reflect the 'lightly used' status. Sounds like you got a decent price.

Have fun with the new toy. :)

Sounds like an excellent price to me.
Thats about $500 cheaper than what I would pay for new.

Yeah, I think you're okay. Do they have a return policy?

I talked to the seller on the phone and she said they offer a full 30 day return policy all all their items. It is even posted on the auction page, I missed it the first time. Glad youu folks think it is a good deal as I really do value your opinions. I have learned a lot from reading these forums during the short time I have been here....and spent a lot as well
Thanks again

I bought the same lens new for $1,200.00 (locally), so I'd say the price is about right for a used copy. I've seen them go for as low as $800.00 and as high as $1,050.00.

It's a great lens. You're gonna' dig it...

You're going to try to find excuses to use the lens, even in situations where you normally wouldn't whip out a lens that big. I don't have the 70-200, but it's older brother the 80-200 f/2.8L (very similar optically, though black and without USM). Before I got it, I didn't shoot telephoto much at all. Now I just look for opportunities to slap that sucker on. The short telephoto L zooms are the best zoom lenses available (well, there are some Nikon and Sigma short telephoto zooms that equal them), so you're going to love it. Be prepared to catch the fever. Since getting that I now have the 17-40L, 35L and 135L on my wishlist. :)

Oh - and you might want to start trying to sell your 75-300 right now. If you're anything like me, once you see the images that come out of your 70-200, you won't want to ever use the cheapo consumer telephoto again (regardless of how much lighter it is.) I sold my Sigma 70-300 APO within a month after getting my 80-200L.

Yeah, that's a good price for it used. It's a couple hundred more new. That's about right for a used 70-200 2.8 Non IS

I was thinking the same thing. I will put that one up on ebay shortly after the L arrives. That was the first lens I bought after getting the 300D kit. I got it for the price and range. The pics have always been soft but I did not really know. After seeing shots posted to this board I have been amazed at the quality. Hopefully I too can someday be taking pictures like that.
Thanks again floks and Happy Holidays

Looks good to me. Not only do they have a great feedback history, they also have a history of selling camera related items. Good sign.

You really need to be concerned about the colour of truck it arrives on more than the seller feedback history.

Seems a brown truck is essential to truly live the L Fever experience. If it ain't brown it don't count. Sorry  You must take the day off work and remain glued to the window watching for the brown truck. Finally, the brown truck must also arrive later than expected.

There is a phase two to the Fever where you wonder if your copy has front, back, side, or centre focus issues. Over the course of some 30 posts to the thread various L fans will post their same old same old shots that neither confirm nor disconfirm whether your lens is Ok or not, but many will OOOH and AAARH about the status of each others shots and your own new baby. This is the peer reinforcement phase.

Finally, during phase three, you either keep getting more fever hoping to achieve the results other fevered types insist are readily possible to one and all by spending yet more CC cash, or you take the grown up route and realise that you actually suck as a photographer and that you're better off working on that (it's free BTW!) than wasting more money.

Enjoy ;)
