I'm traveling to florida on business but will take an extra few days after to explore the area.

On day one, I'm going to hit the southern part of the everglades and on day two I'm going to hit the keys. It seems like the logical place to stay is Homestead since it's between the two, but are there bad neighborhoods that I should stay away from? Any areas better than others?

Thanks

I normally stop in Florida City (South Homestead) to gas up while traveling down to the Keys, never stayed overnight there. I would recommend finding a place in Key Largo and driving back to the everglades.

Thanks, I was thinking the same. Unfortunately, this trip came up at the last minute so I didn't have much time to do research, however, after browsing the web some more I decided to stay at Florida City.

If I had a more leisurely schedule I would have tried out the Floating Inn (http://www.thefloatinginn.com/ (external link)) in Key Largo because it sounds cool, but being a mom and pop hotel they can't accommodate an unknown check in/check out time.

Hopefully, the area isn't too bad...from google street view it looked ok.
