EDIT: Identified as a Great Crested Flycatcher.

Sorry for the extreme crops, but this guy was a decent distance away. I'm pretty sure it's a Kingbird, but I'm not sure what type. Looking at their territories didn't help, as I took this last weekend in Delhi, Louisiana (northeast La), which is slightly out of range for the Western, Tropical, and Couch's Kingbirds.

In any event, I'll be out in a couple of days hoping he's still around and trying to get some better shots. Thanks for your help!

doesnt look like a Cassins or an eastern to me.
perhaps tropical or western that was blown around a bit?
Im just guessing as I have very little experience with them.

its weird though as most kingbirds I see have a crest.
maybe its not even a kingbird?

At first I thought maybe Great Crested Flycatcher but the dark under tail has me thinking maybe Western Kingbird. They have been seen here in South Carolina so Louisiana isn't an impossibility.

I think Nighthound's ^ first impression is right on - it sure looks like a Great-crested Flycatcher. Myiarchus birds can be difficult to distinguish, but range, season, coloring, and bill all indicate GC Flycatcher to me. Without hearing it call and seeing other views, I guess one shouldn't completely rule out Ash-throated or Brown-crested Flycatcher.

Great-crested Flycatcher is what it is.

Wow, thanks. I definitely have a lot to learn about bird identification. I really appreciate the help.
