I've been wondering if I should get the 5D Mark ii or the 7D. I have the 550D or T2i right now. Can someone please compare both of the models to my current one and recommend a camera for me? :-)

Camera: Canon EOS 7D (Gripped)
Lenses: Canon EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS, Canon EF-S 55-250mm II f/4-5.6 IS, Canon EF 75-300mm III f/4-5.6,
Canon EF-S 18-55 II f/3.5-5.6 IS, Opteka 500mm Preset f/8.0.

Depends what's important to you. 7D has better AF and nifty features. 5Dii can have an edge for IQ if AF isn't part of the eqauation.

I have both. Reach for the 7D way more often but even though I'm far from rolling in $$, I won't give up my 5Dii for the $1700 or so it would bring used (and it's falling quickly). To be honest; I grab the 7D because of the pop-up more than any other reason.

Edit: The other obvious difference is FF on the 5Dii. On FF you can't use your EFS lenses and the ones you can are 30% shorter. Shorter usually isn't a good thing on the tele-end but fantastic on the wide-end. A 70-200 takes on a while new meaning on FF! 24MM is actually WA rather than quasi-normal.

The larger pixels seems to (might be my imagination) cut down on the pixilation look and offer a bit more natural looking shadows. I've gone on shoots with both that involved a lot of dim lighting and, althought I couldn't put my finger on it, I liked the 5Dii shots a tiny bit more (although not enough for it to really effect which camera I'll bring).

For sports, wildlife, and general family photography there's no question, get the 7D.

Your 550D is a great camera , small and compact body not heavy great for travel in a small bag
but if you want a hard body like a rock with a fast focus for sports and wildlife
the 7D is a good choice but the picture is the same as your 550D
and if you want a hard body like a rock for a great image quality
the 5D is a good choice
