I wonder if people are getting copies yet...

I was really hot on this lens after seeing the MTF results done by some testers, BUT I think I have found a fatal flaw in this lens for $3000.

According to this review, the light falloff is around 3 stops at f2.8, which makes it just as bad as the 16-35II for nighttime panoramas. In this regard, the Nikon 14-24 just kills the competition at 1/3 the amount of light loss in the corners at 2.8.

It seems there is a huge barrier to image performance with non-bulbous, front element lenses. Too bad Zeiss hurt their advantage of having a flatish front element by putting a solid metal hood into the design. What a bunch of smart idiots.:lol:

Optical design is, and always will be about making concessions. You should see what goes into making a single wavelength(1550nm) laser radar scanning head.. even when you have the guy that created them on your team.... a 3 lens design using 1 inch lenses....

if we were to go with ideal optics each lens would have cost a small fortune

Some trickled out earlier this spring I believe. Not that many in the US. Mine was delayed until end of June/early July...then end of August. Haven't heard a peep, so my fears are that it's going to slip again.
