Is the T3i Rebel a good replacement for my video camera?

Hey, I'm planing on purchasing a T3i tomorrow, and was wondering if it would be a suitable replacement for the current video camera I have?

I'm buying the camera more for photography but I've also got a Sony HD cx110 Handycam that I use for video.

I'm curious if I will be kicking myself for selling the Sony and just having the Canon T3i, or no?

Thanks! :D

If you do buy a T3i remember that you would have to buy lenses, batteries, etc...

I'm sure the Handycam is more user friendly when it comes to form factor, but DSLRs also have amazing quality video if done right.

Why not try keeping both? You will also love the T3i for photography since that was in your original post.

I'm getting the kit that comes with the 18-55mm lens and battery.

I just like to be resourceful . I didn't know if it would do me any good to have the sony around, or to sell it while I can get the most I can.

Keep the Sony. Canon DSLR's cannot autofocus while recording. You are on your own. I will say that they provide awesome video QUALITY. I video recorded my speeches in a recent Public Speaking class. Very good IQ from a tripod and unchanging focus.

Sell your Handycam? Only if you know Exactlyy what you're getting into, what you're gaining with the T2i and what you're losing from the Handycam. Gaining: killer IQ, better DOF control. Losing: useable AF, better form factor, useable autoexposure (I suppose this could be debated). Most people, when they discover they have to manual focus in video mode, run the other way screaming. (I don't, but that's just me.) DSLR video is not for casual users, at least if you want high quality results.

I'd recommend you get the T4i with the STM kit lens if you intend to replace your camcorder. It has improved AF during video. Test reports are still not in, but it will be better than the T3i, which can't autofocus during video. But, I'd also go along with those recommending you keep your camcorder until you are satisfied with the DSLR for video. The camcorder will be a lot easier to use.
