HJMinard Nice shot - I look forward to seeing more, Gary. I have had a bunch of female rose-breasted grosbeaks at my feeder, but I have yet to see a male. No fair

I have to say that normally I prefer the Male because of the colors but the female of this species is also quite beautiful. She is pretty plainly colored on top but the pattern in her feathers is really nice and if you get a chance to see her open her wings:cool: The females are golden yellow under the wings, really quite amazing. If you have females at your feeder its only a matter of time before 1 or more males shows up. :D Thanks for looking and for the comments.

dancinec Great shot Gary, colors, focus and composition are great. I take it that you cropped out the feeder

I did crop out the feeder but there was not much to crop as the bird was leaning away from the feeder so most of the crop was near the bottom left. I found I would often try and minimize the feeder in many shots by focusing on the bird, holding the focus and then panning to the outside. Somteimes it works and other times it just looks strange.
Thanks for looking denis.:)

JohnnyG An exceptionally sharp and well composed shot of this beautiful bird.

Thanks Johnny!:)

liv2trip I really miss seeing this bird ,,, very nice shot Gary as always, love the bokeh... I hope over the holidays to get some more shots of his cousin the Evening Grosbeak

Everytime I hear about Evening Grosbeaks I wonder if maybe you have seen them again. Thanks Wayne!

Stephen Stephen Great shot Gary. I've only ever senn the male of this species once. It visited my feeder and was never seen again. Perhaps I'll be luckier next summer.

Are you using Black Oil Sunflower seeds? They love that seed. I have had two pairs this past summer and 1 pair the summer before. One of the males was a first year and surprisingly appeared to dominate when he and the older, larger male were together ( probably because his mate was with him). Thanks for looking Stephen!

Blackburnian Beauty Gary!

Love the natural captured colors of the bird and the clean and complementary background. Sure miss these colorful birds already....

PS: Have you considered cloning out that seed shell??

Marc

Leorooster Great shot, Gary. My vote is cloning that shell out.

sparker1 Beautiful shot, Gary.

Thanks for the feedback:)

dancad Nice shot of a wonderful bird of which I am anxious to see again. Found a nest last year and actually snapped a picture of the male incubating the eggs.

Now that must be cool to see one in the nest. I saw these guys quite often this summer but I thought they nested really high. We will know its Spring for sure when these guys return, Thanks for looking and commenting Dan!

Paul A Great shots Gary

Thanks Paul!

I agree, the females are quite pretty in their own way. Here's (external link) a shot of one I got last spring.

I agree, the females are quite pretty in their own way. Here's a shot of one I got last spring.

She looks pretty apprehensive just like the ones I am used to.......or perhaps she is looking for a mate.

Blue Deuce Two thumbs up !

And thanks to anyone else who looks or comments and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All:D
