I use this all the time and I don't understand whats going on.
I sometimes use threshold to remove a color cast. Tonight I have an image of three birds in a tree, the tree was crooked so I use the ruler tool to draw a line down the tree and then use rotate, arbitrarliy to rotate the image what i used the ruler tool for.
After this I tried to use a threshold adj layer.Heres the weird part, I couldn't, whenever I hit Threshold, from the bottom right hand menu, all I can get is a levels adjustment.

Its just above the time and date, its called a create new fill or adjustment layer, a circle with a diaganol line with one half black and the other white.

Now If I go in after shutting everything off, and don't do a rotate, or ruler tool, the threshold works fine.
I don't get this at all, and its driving me over the edge a bit.
Anyone have any idea what I'm doing to cause this to happen

I cannot replicate it, or I don't get what you describe.

Could you post a screenshot?

I'm finding its when I crop an image it happens.
Basically what I do is go in and use threshold adjustment layer, right here:
Step 4: Add A Threshold Adjustment Layer

Click on the New Adjustment Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel:

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 403 | MIME changed to 'text/html'

and it works. But If I use the crop function and then try and use this, I get a levels adjustment layer instead of a threshold adjustment layer.
(this isn't my screen, but its where the button I use for threshold adjustment layer is.)

Is this your layers panel after you have attempted your threshold adjustment layer. This layer 1 you are showing is simply a normal layer set to difference. Or this the layer that you are trying to invoke the adjustment layer on.

I have tried this on my version of CS6 extended and I can do a levels or threshold and they look like the following in my panel. I tried cropping with the new crop tool, using the legacy method and using the marquee tool to crop. All give me the same result.

No image…

On a side-note: That first screenshot does not look like it's PSCS6…

I get the same result as ssim.

I tried a printscreen, problem was I had no program to bring it into to size it. I tried paint program, but obviously it didn't work.
Yes that was just a screen I found online to show where I was getting the button and threshold from.
As I said though after I use crop I can't get threshold to work at all. If I use threshold after crop all I get is a levels layer, and no threshold.
Could it be the crop which is causing the issue possibly, or the way I'm using it? It seems to be slightly different than what I was using with CS3 which is what I was using before, which still works fine BTW.

Try resetting Photoshop.

Close Photoshop and o a search on your install drive for a file named Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp. Delete it or move it to your desktop; then restart Photoshop and see if that clears up the problem.

You can get a Print Screen to load into either Photoshop or Paint. Do an Alt-PrtScn (to copy the Active window into the clipboard), then in Photoshop do a File/New and a new document should open that is pre-set to the pixel dimensions of your clipboard image. Just do a Ctl-V to paste the Screen shot into the new image.

With Paint, when you open it a new image opens, and you just need to do a Ctl-V to paste the clipboard/Screen capture into the new image.

From there, you can crop and paste relevent portions into another new image if you want...

If I do a reset, will I have to setup my preferences all over again ?
But I'll try that. I've barely started using this, I've only had it for a few weeks, I can't believe I screwed it up already !

I have to reset my Photoshop every so often if things go amuck. I used to keep a screen grab of each of the user preferences pages but now I just know what they have to be at. Over time you will too. Resetting is not that big of a deal and definitely worth a try. You are the only person that I have ever seen report behavior like this so I doubt that it is Photoshop.
