I'm ready to get some decent noise reduction software and have already done a fair amount of reading on the subject. I want a PS plug-in rather than a stand-alone program, and it must be able to to 16-bit. It sounds like the primary contenders are Noise Ninja and Neat Image, with Ninja receiving a slight edge in most comparative reviews. Before I buy Noise Ninja, are there others I should consider?

I don't have an answer for your question; however, I was in your position a few months ago and opted for Noise Ninja. I'm happy with it and highly recommend it although I've used nothing else.

From what I've read, Noise Ninja and Neat Image are nearly equivalent. NN is supposed to be faster, but image quality appears to be something of a toss up. Of the comparative reviews I've found, some prefer NN and others NI. However, it seems like I'm finding NN picked as the winner a bit more often.

I don't know about NeatImage, but you can download and try Noise Ninja for free - You can see the results on your monitor, but you can't save or print the files unless you buy a license. At least you can take a look at the Instruction Manual and get a feel for the user interface to see if you like it.

Another nice thing about Noise Ninja is you can buy the basic license and if you decide to upgrade to the pro version later, the cost to upgrade is the same as the price difference between the two.

Vjack, I went through this decision delema a couple weeks ago. Downoaded Ninja, and Noiseware. Decided on the Noiseware Pro plug-in for CS2. They all "seem" fairly equal to me, but chose NW for the GUI. ?? Hope this helps, dnld, and try 'em all.

Both (although I have not actually used NN so a little assumption) but both the results vary epending on learning curve and time taken to set it up right fro each task.

My point being that the one that will work best fro you is the one that you take the time to really use.

Me,. I got used to working with Grain Surgery.. Neat Image which I also have is a FAR more copmprehensive and detailed app,.. but I have not taken the time to learn to use all of these features. Therefore I am getting better results from GS despite knowing that NI offers much more.

I liked the free Noiseware Community version enough that I bought Pro version. Just my $.02
