I just bought this 32gig card for 25$... it seemed like a deal, but now I wonder if it's fine for RAW shooting.

I'm no SO bothered if I can't shoot at 5 shots a second.. but I'd want to be able to record 1080/60fps video without worrying.

Am I ok, or should I return it?

Is it definitely Class 10? I have some 8 and 16gb Sandisk SD Ultras and they are Class 6 and do not run more than 2-3 seconds on a 60D for video (RAWs are fine). I have a 32Gb Extreme, which says Class 10 30MB/s runs fine in the 60D.

The Ultras work fine in the GoPro Hero2 for video.

Based on file info/properties, at 30fps the 60D is three times the data rate of the GoPro.

Unfortunately, 1080/60pfs does not really tell you much. There are a variety of compression codecs that are used, depending on the device. For example,I have an HD camcorder that can record 1080p/60fps using AVCHD compression. Its bit stream is 28 Mbps, or ~3.5MB/s It works fine with a class 4 card.

My Canon Rebel T2i will shoot video at 1080p/30fps, but its bit stream is 5.5MB/s, so it requires a class 6 card.

What are you recording with and what is its bit rate?

(It's a T4i)

(edit) I see the manual states class 6 or higher. I'm surprised.. from reading around, I gathered you needed higher.
Given the speed of the T4i, I don't think a UHS card would make a difference then. Maybe if you're shooting 12fps on a 1xd.

Your camera supports UHS (I think... I didn't look it up), but probably does not really take advantage of its increased speed. Your camera's video bit stream is the same as mine: 5.5MB/s. It has 1080p/30fps and 720p/60fps modes, but they both produce a bit stream of 5.5MB/s.

People on this board buy faster cards than strictly needed for various reasons, including bad experience with cards that don't perform as marked, the belief that their camera will take advantage of the increased speed (some higher end cameras do, but mine doesn't and I doubt yours does, either), wanting to "be sure" to not have problems, faster buffer dumps with burst shooting, and wanting faster transfer speeds from the card to their computer.

Burst shooting of still photos, even with your T4i, produces a much higher bit rate than HD video. That's why your camera has a very high speed RAM to buffer the burst shots before they are written to the flash memory card.

K... I'm sure it will be fine then. Thanks for the info!
