Hi all,
Just curious....
I was planning on buying a Panosaurus pano head to make some nice shots with my G6 mounted on a Bogen tripod. To make these images, I know that it is important to fire the camera without shaking it. Options to do this that I can think of include - using the timer on the camera or the remote capture software with a pc laptop hooked to the camera via a USB cable.

Is it possible to use a PDA (like an IPAQ with Pocket PC software) to do this? If yes, is software available?

My old Nikon 8008 SLR had a remote fire cable. Do we have something similar for the digital G6?
Thanks.

My G6 came with a remote, yours should have one. If not you can get one from Canon.;

There are two remote options: the IR remote and through the USB port. ZoomBrowser comes with a remote capture utility that lets you make almost all adjustments from a computer. There is a third party app that I prefer - Breeze Systems PSR Remote. As long as a PDA can Use a USB connection, a program can be written that would control it. If anyone has one it would probably be Chris Breeze. A links for you:

There is a page for the Canon Remote Captureand one for Breeze PSR Remote.

The benefit of the USB hookup is the ability to change the camera settings remotely. For Pano work, all settings are locked. So I'm not sure why remote capture would be a benefit over a plain ole Wireless Controller WL-DC100.

I would even think the 2 second delay would work. Unless you have other requirements, it seems to me that any other solution would unnecessarily complicate things.

thanks for your help!

Since I never had a need to use it -- I completely forgot about the wireless remote for the camera.....

yeah, I use the remote far more often than i'd ever have imagined. It's cool that they included it with the camera rather than charging an extra $30 or whatever for it.

It's also great when you're playing back images on a monitor/TV.
