It probably does have a bit of focus shift, but you can't argue with the photos. Don't get too worried by the naysayers. There is a reason it is so popular.

I think if I give it some more time, it will edge out the 70-200f2.8 as my favorite lens. 5D Mk III & 7D | 430 EX II

Thank you for the positive feedback. I was beginning to cause myself un-necessary buyer's remorse.

Aug 23, 2012 09:46 | #21 i've only had this lens about 2 weeks and loving it so far... came from a 50 1.4 then sigma version... i gotta say this is a def better lens from built to image quality. It'a bit pricey but when you see the pictures taken with the lens, you'll automaticly forget how much the lens was Phuong

They’re right. I agree almost everything you said. Why do people paid a premium price for a Ferrari Enzo instead of getting a Mustang Shelby or Camero ZL1? cancan7 Senior Member 504 posts Likes: 17 Joined Jan 2008 More info | I bought it when I only had the 7D, because I wanted a 50mm lens that could focus reliably in poor light. I'm pretty pleased with it, sharpness is nothing if you can't lock focus 5D III, 7D(gripped)

Just a friendly reminder, you will easily miss focus when shooting wide open using the center AF point and recompose your shot. Right here. Once I quit doing that I drastically reduced the number of throw aways I have.

It seems that most of the hate is from either early versions of this lens or people remembering early versions of this lens assuming it is still the same now. Even though it did not get a different part number I highly suspect Canon did some changes to this lens. most people who have this lens now seem very happy. My Humble Gear List
