I like the first one, looks like you lose some detail in the processed one in the shadow areas (runners arm). You will probably hear some complaining on the vignette, might be better used on dramatic theatrical stuff instead of sports. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for sharing BTW, it is a good shot.

For sports photography I always like an unedited image - it portrays the true nature of the action better for me (and I stress the "for me" part), on simple aesthetic appeal it's very close, but for the reason mentioned above I prefer the first picture.

I like the first one better. Maybe add a little contrast.

I like one too just because it has a sport journalism feel to it. Two would be okay for commercial purpose.

First one is more natural, but the second one puts more focus on the ball carrier. I like both, actually.

this is the first time I have edited another's photo on this forum so hope I am doing this correctly....since you have "image editing ok" on your profile I thought that meant what I am now doing is ok. If not, I apologize.
here is my edit:

what I did was first address the gray overcast look so adjusted the levels and contrast and brightness and that pretty much gave a great look. I took it a little further by boosting the sats of the grass some and used highlights and shadows to improve things a surprising amount imo. Finally I added a warming photo filter at 30 percent opacity to give a sunnier look.
I hope you like this version, if any questions ask away, and forgive me if I made any faux paus
thanks!!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Liquid Dark no problem on the edit, thanks. I like your edit. I will probably play with the original more.

These two photos were obviously drastically different and I was interested in other people's perspective. I shoot varsity (my son's team) so most of the time I am shooting under the lights. This was a middle of the day scrimmage.

Tonight is the first official game.

I like it. Gives me the feeling of a "Friday Night Lights" or moment in "Rudy" :-)
