Phottix recently announced their new Atlas II transceivers (external link). Has anyone been able to test them, or have any additional information on them? How do they stack up against the new PocketWizard Plus III?

I just sold 4 Strato II triggers so I'm thinking of replacing them with the Atlas II transceivers but given what happened with the original Atlas when LPA Design (PocketWizard) filed a lawsuit that blocked their sale/distribution in the U.S. market I'm being cautious.

Having compared them next to each other, the Phottix Atlas are better built feel more sturdy.
They have a proper looking foot that means they can't come out of the hot shoe, and the come with a full range of cables, including a proper locking PC Sync cable.

The PW Plus3s do some clever things with channels etc, but if you don't need that extra functionality then the Atlas are a better buy.

Thanks Moppie, they are certainly more attractively priced than the PocketWizard Plus III. Unlike the PWs, I noticed that the Atlas II has two 3.5mm ports and they claim HSS capability. If they can truly use HSS they might be an excellent buy.

Just checking around I noticed Rob Galbraith reported the lawsuit was settled so that's not a fear going forward:

The Atlas won't do FP HSS.

The feature listed is "High Sync Speed", just meaning they have low latency.

Or in other words you can get the most out of your cameras X-sync without getting shutter curtain in the frame. Some (well many) of the cheaper triggers like the RF-602/3 can fall below the cameras maximum sync speed.

The original Atlas where compatible with PocketWizards (433MHz), now the Atlas II are 2.4Ghz like most new triggers, and therefore compatible with the Stratos and Odin.
