Today Santa cleverly disguised as a UPS driver brought my Christmas gift from myself to myself. (wait for it) A 300mm 2.8L!!!!!

Let me say first that this is one beast of a lens, I'm going to have to start working out to use this puppy. Some of you may remember I had some bad luck with the Sigma version of this lens, but I found a killer deal on this baby and I couldn't help myself. Wildlife beware, I have a new big white Canon :D

WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!

I'll be back with pictures from the great white beast after work (is it 5 yet? what about now?)

I'm taking pictures of everything, so go ahead and take this place away from me.

5DII, 16-35mm f/2.8L II, ZE 28mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4L, ZE 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8L IS, 580 EX

congrats........get the bandaides out, cuz this lens will slice you in half with it's sharp optics.
i bought one a couple monts back and then sold it in favor of the 2 telezooms i recently purchased.
after wanting it so bad, then getting it, then seeing the amazing images, i wished i could have kept it, but in all honesty, i'm just not a prime guy.
have fun

Personally I am definitly a prime guy, I think I always have been even before I realized it. Even with a zoom on my camera I'm always at the same focal legnth, my 12-24 is always at 12mm and my 24-70 is always at 70mm. I think about composition more when just using a single focal legnth which I believe helps my pictures significantly.

Oh, you really know how to hurt a guy. I've been wanting this lens for a looooong time now. Just got the 100-400 as a sort of stop gap measure on my way to a big prime. But now I'm wanting to take the express train and get off at the 400 f2.8 stop.

I did the same thing, bought the 400 5.6L thinking that would be enough for me. I love the 400 and use it all the time, super sharp wide open even with a TC on it but being limited to f/8 was really hurting me. It was this or a 500 4.5L since they seem to cost around the same these days and this is what I found, I've been playing with it inside and I'm really liking this. I do need a new head for my tripod, this plus the 1D is really straining my 322RC2, 3421 perhaps as a new years gift :)
