When I was a boy growing up in SW Ontario, I would often get field guides out of the library and look at all the animals I hoped to see someday. The "Whiskeyjack" was a favorite...I would read stories of their brazen, food stealing ways and wish that we had them in our area. Now that I live in NW Ontario, Gray Jays are seen fairly regularly, but to this day I just can't get enough of them. This is one I ran into this morning...they've been scarce all summer but lately I'm seeing them everywhere, usually in groups of 2 or 3.

A couple of great shots here, Mike. I never see them around home, only in the deep woods. They are nifty birds alright.

Nice work, Mike. I am not sure about Northern Ontario, but here in Whitehorse they make themselves scarce during the summer, only to show up this time of year to hang around until spring. But they can still be a handful in the bush around camp in the summer.
