Very interesting...This should make all those FF shooters out there very happy. I had the old one, will be keeping a close eye on this one!

Well seems this lens is finally shipping, anybody got their hands on a copy yet and see how good it is? I can't imagine it would be worse than the previous version. I'm tempted to pick up a copy and see how good it is.

We got the Opteka version a couple of months ago. On full frame it's close to 3/4 of a circular fisheye--the top and bottom of the image circle are cut off and the image circle doesn't come close to filling the sides of the frame. That said, at least you can remove the hood to prevent additional vignetting. Obviously, this lens works best on crop bodies but is usable on FF.

Interesting, so they advertise it as for Full Frame but it doesn't show full image? Are you sure you aren't thinking of the old version?

Actually, here is a descripton from Rokinon:

"This is Rokinon's newest fisheye lens for Canon. It features some great new features that are not available on Rokinon's first highly rated 8mm f/3.5 fisheye lens. Optics and glass are high definition (HD) with very clear & sharp images. This lens also features a removable hood which can make it easier for use on full frame cameras. While this lens is designed for APS-C sensors, full frame users can now use it without the hood. On APS-C cameras like the Canon 60D, 7D and T3i, the pictures will fill the entire frame or screen. On full frame cameras like the Canon 5D, the lens will produce pictures with a semi-circular image and close images will appear proportionately large for a dramatic effect. "

So it would appear that the only difference optical wise from the $270 and $330 version is a removable hood. It still doesn't provide a full fisheye image for FF cameras. I would be interested to see if IQ has improved any.

jblaschke, any examples you can post? Did you have old version to compare with new?

Interesting option for full frame. I assume the effect would be similar to the 8-15mm on 8mm (circular). Somewhat limiting as a dedicated FF fish eye lens, but certainly has it's uses like making 360 panos or stretching them to rectilinear.
For a full frame fish eye that fills the frame you're gonna be looking at a ~15mm fish eye like the highly sought after Canon 15mm f/2.8 or the Sigma 15mm. There's a manual 16mm but imo the quality/price ratio isn't all that good to offset it against a 15mm canon or sigma.

I've been craving a fish eye but decided to get a m43 camera to be able to use their 7.5mm f/3.5 which is nothing short of awesome. Tiny bodies with flip-up screens like the new Olympus E-PL5 will presumably also help with placement and composition from odd angles... Also I wanted a portable pancake awesome so gonna try out the E-PL5 + 20mm 1.7 and 7.5mm FE for a bit.

Hi guys,

I'm only interested in using this lens for 360º panos, which i have shot hundreds of with a Sigma 8mm on a full frame camera in 3 x 120º positions (single row).

On bhphoto.com it states the lens has a 167º FOV which tells me i'll have missing sky content. Occasionally i'd get a small, dark patch after stitching with the Sigma, but would love to know how this lens compares.

Please, I'm not interested in guesses, experience with cropped sensors or "just shoot one up" comments. I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with exactly the method described as I will use this for effects work on feature films and commercials.

Thanks very much, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Anthony

First of all, for a person's first post, it is kind of rude to demand what kind of answer you want. And I am still going to just guess.

This lens is apparently optically the same as the old Rokinon. If you do some searching for the old one you should be able to find some examples of how the old one works on FF.

Thanks very much Raylon, I appreciate your help/guess. I have downloaded samples from a shaved version and stitched them myself so hopefully it is the same FOV and won't be a problem. I actually discovered a thread on the Nodal Ninja site after I posted my question. They recommend a 7.5º tilt up which makes perfect sense.

I'm sorry if you found my comment to be rude and/or demanding. I tried to word my 'kind request' as nicely as possible hence the terms "please", "thanks very much" and "help will be greatly appreciated".

I certainly hope I haven't upset other folk here. Just trying to keep a specific question in a potentially complicated world on track so we can all learn from it.
