From canonpricewatch facebook:

‎15% off Canon Refurb lenses and bodies at the Canon Store. This weekend only!
Things are selling out fast. See what's in-stock and sign up for e-mail notifications:

Looks like it excludes the 5D Mark II. They still have the 17-40L for $571, which is a pretty good deal...

Dang, as expected, the great lenses sold out quickly. I would have liked to picked up the 85L and/or the 135L.

I wouldn't hold my breath on the 85L or 135L -- they both haven't been in-stock for 8 weeks, since the last big Canon refurb sale. But here's to hoping...

Glad the Extender EF 1.4x II was listed as Not In Stock or I might have had to jump on it... for the very small listed price of $1159.20 :p

More marketing hype by Canon. Obviously it works. Put on a sale when nothing (or a very limited amount) is in stock to create a brand buzz and as soon as the sale ends, stock mysteriously restocks itself within a week or two when people are still looking, hoping, and buzzing and decide the refurb prices are pretty good even without the sale... and buy anyway...

I realized this when I signed up for a couple of email notifications during the last sale. Crickets during the sale (it was a long one) and as soon as it ended, the emails started flooding my inbox.

Bogus Canon.

^ That's why I rely on Slickdeals notifications rather than site notifications most of the time. Usually it's posted on SD within minutes of a deal going live.

This time around there were hardly any lenses around. Last time with the 20% in June, I had a 85 1.8 and 135L in my cart before deciding to pass because I didn't have a Canon body at the time. I'm still kicking myself over that one.

I've been using cpw's notifications for Canon stuff, I find it faster than SD. I picked up a 24-70 and a 70-200 II last 20% sale with because of the notifs. They've mentioned they check every 15 seconds, and I can confirm -- I got an e-mail saying something was in stock 30 seconds after I had checked myself, and there it was :)

They had the 24-70 at the beginning of the June 20% sale for $895.36, which is where I got it. And they had it last week at "full" price $1119.20, and it still sold. My guess is they don't need to offer 15% off to make that one go.

Totally. Used ones are going for $1350+ on eBay, so I'm sure that those cross-shoppers are thinking $1120 is a steal.

Both of those lenses we never in stock to begin with -- and now most everything else is out of stock too. Pretty much only the 'standard zooms' (28-135, 18-200, 15-85, etc) left.

But I bet everything good will be back in stock on Monday morning!
