I'd go with the Flex/Mini setup.

From what I have read the lll's have dealt with some of the build issues, offer more channels and range and to top it all of are cheaper new than lots of ll's are used. Not a tough call for me, I am thinking of picking some up soon - just don't know easy it is to adapt the 580 series to PW's so am a little apprehensive. Thoughts?

This doesn't really help to answer your question, but I recently upgraded to a pair of Canon 600EX-RTs and I'm glad I did. It takes the Pocketwizard question out of the equation!
