I watched this little vireo search high and low for bugs this afternoon...made me wish I had a few to hand over when he came up empty....:)

Beautiful shots, Mike. I see a fair bit of noise in the first 2, I see you were at ISO 1600 on your 7D?

Yeah, it's a constant battle when shooting forest loving birds with a low light hating camera... I am trying to improve my pp to help minimize the effect. I love the 7d in all other respects, but shooting in the shadows is not a strong point. I have an external flash, but am still trying to come to grips with it's proper operation...

Believe me, I totally understand. It's why I bought a 1D4. It's a Pricey solution, but it makes life so much better ;)

I'd love to move to FF, but I know I'd miss the crop sensor. Guess I'll have to get a ff and keep the crop...then buy a truck to lug around everything...

The 1D4 is still a crop, but @ 1.3. I don't really miss the crop factor of the 7D, although I still do switch to it from time to time, when there's lots of light.

Overall a very nice set Mike. In my case I usually see noise when I have to crop, but if the shot does not require cropping, 1600 ISO is still pretty good. I would love to get a 1D4 but that would have to wait :)

... does it really matter?i see with my eyes, i shoot with my fingers.

Noone mentions the 3rd shot and that was w/ ISO 2500!! To my eyes they all look incredible! Just don't pick up on the noise like I should until someone points it out in my shots. Would love to learn Mike's processing skills for my own use in my shaded backyard. Well done, Mike.
