Hi,
I use Canon 7D with the regular lens kit "18-135mm" when i use it for product photography i always get blurred pictures! i mean not SHARP:mad:!! (Please check the attached)

what is the best lens to use and please don't mention the thousand dollars lenses

I usually shoot small products like jewellery and sometimes traveling bags! i never get the chance to test the 5D but professional photographers said that the Canon 7D is a good camera for both video/still shooting.

thanks for reading my question :) and thanks in advanced for replying

Please give some more details of how you got the shot you are questioning. Some off the cuff suggestions would be - use a prime lens, shoot at f/8, use mirror lock-up, remote release and a rock-solid tripod. To obtain the finest control over focus, use Live View at 10X. After getting the best shot you can get out of the camera, you can work in something like LR4.1 to make some improvements to the image. I can't offer suggestions about that; I just play with sliders until I like the results.

Yea, you should try shooting at small apertures like f11-f16.

more info on your settings would help to know if it's the lens, or you...

i'd think that lens stopped down to f8 would be able to give you a pretty sharp shot...provided there's not a filter in front of it...

for smaller objects a macro lens would do you well

you say don't recommend $1,000 lenses...well how much do you have to spend?

There is nothing 'wrong' with the 18-135. It just isn't the best horse in the stable. Find a prime closest to the focal length you usually shoot at. There are lots of options that are sharper than the 18-135 and don't cost $1,000. Consider 28 2.8, 35 2, 50 1.8, 60 macro, 85 1.8, 100 macro (not the L-version) and the 135 SF. All of them are well under $1,000. Some are well under $400, used. And all of them are decent performers, IQ wise.

Ditto on the NO FILTERS. I quit using them completely when I saw how badly they affected my IQ on my brand new 100-400L. Tested two or three other lenses, then trashed all my filters. Well, I kept the CP and the GND; those are special purpose items.

How do you set up?
What focal length, f-stop, distance to subject, distance to background, focus point(s), shooting mode, etc..

Even though a 5D/1DS series with some nice glass (tilt and shift lens is handy in this situation but is expensive) would I guess be a more optimal gear choice for product shots, the 7D with your current lens or those suggeted above should be more than good enough to deliver sharp images.

Have you studied this area of photography? I'm thinking about lighting and DOF mainly. These are pretty high on the list of things to understand and control for product shots. Perspective and the effects of focal length also figure..

You can't erase a dream, you can only wake me up.
