Good day.
I'm looking for some feedback on cameras and setups with which to record games and practices of Woman's Flat Track Roller Derby with the goal of helping the player's of the PEI teams improve for next season.
Biggest challenges are that A: I currently have no real video gear of my own, and B: recordings will be in your average or below average city community sports centres. Also known as generally poor lighting.
Other challenges are layouts, and player positioning. Tracks are smaller than a hockey rink, see a layout Here
which is just the playing surface, an additional ten feet or more beyond that is needed for refs to skate on the outside. I am worried about what field of views on cameras would be best to keep showing good detail in the packs.
The most important thing for camera angles is that the players will have to be able to identify themselves, and clearly see who has done what to let the jammers through, or why the jammer was unable to get through. (Jammer being the skater that attempts to break through and lap the other team's players to score points.)
Goal is not to provide video, live or otherwise, for spectators, or for ref review. This would be first and foremost for player review at practice after the fact.
Ideally a usable solution on a fairly limited budget would do the trick. I had been thinking picking up 2-4 older go-pro or similar sports style cameras to stick in various places, but I'm worried the field of view would be too wide for how far back they would have to be, and that their low light performance wouldn't produce the greatest detail.
Thoughts or feed back?
