As some of you may know, I used to have a 1D Mark III, which I loved, but realized that it's not the right machine for me, since I mostly shoot landscapes, cityscapes and other travel stuff. So, just to see how I liked the smaller body format and the FF format, I bought a 5Dc, fell in love with it and sold the 1D3.
However, the 5Dc - amazing as it may be - was missing a few things...namely video, a more modern UI, a better LCD, LiveView, etc. So I picked up a 5D2, which, for reasons relating to Korea's import laws, I only got when I met my buddies for a Euro trip last month.
I've spent the last month wandering around 8 countries in Europe, and shot nearly 5,000 pictures. I'm in the process of downloading all my pics right now, but from using the camera and looking at the results on the LCD I have to say it's an amazing piece of equipment.
The 3 Custom settings are infinitely useful (I could easily switch between high ISO/fast SS and long SS/low ISO shots for night shots, for example), the LCD is brilliant, the controls are flawless, the high ISO noise is incredible (I was happy with everything up to and including 6,400, and even H1 was a good "emergency" setting). Focusing was NEVER a problem on the centre spot, even when there was ridiculously little light in places like 1,000 year old churches. The edge focus points were more problematic, but even they were perfectly useful in 99% of the situations.
The battery life was incredible - with my spare battery I never ran out of juice, even when I shot a ton of stills/videos and used LV liberally.
I'll start posting pics on my Flickr and some on here as I go through editing them, but in the meantime I wanted to share my first experiences with this camera...I absolutely love it...it's probably the best-fitting camera for my purposes I've ever used!
congrats !!
