5D MK3 Shutter Problem

Hi,

I just picked up a 5D MK3 on Friday and put it to good use shooting a wedding today.

I've noticed that I have several shots where there is a dark band at the top of the image as if the mirror hadn't cleared out of the way fully before the shutter was activated.

I think that all of the instances that this happened were when I was using "Silent" mode.

The Camera is obviously going back tomorrow to be replaced but I wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience?

That's not good. It wasn't the shutter from trying to sync about 1/200th with flash was it?

Well, there was also a reporting that cont. burst in silence mode will cause wear and tear so that might be it.

Nope, none of the shots were using flash.

The camera is 2 day's old with less than 1,000 shots on it and it wasn't in burst mode either - I guess that I just need to get it swapped out.

I have the same problem. Canon Camera Service at phone said to me that probably they need to substitute the shutter. :(

Hmmm.... I have a "light leak" serial, but never sent it in or exchanged it where I purchased it (3 weeks after I bought it, Unique Photo was more than happy to swap bodies - great place).

I haven't experienced what the OP and others have on this thread and have used silent mode quite a bit around the house. Have to keep an eye on this thread and the camera..

I have one from the first batch, but have never run into any problems with the camera at all. I don't use silent shutter much at all though...

I also have one from B&H's first batch and no issues, the top LCD did not flex either, haven't bothered testing the light leak.

Well I now have a replacement camera, the original is on its way back to Canon for an investigation.

One of the benefits of dealing with a reputable bricks and mortar store - I would not have got it sorted so easily and quickly if I'd have bought through the internet.
