I'll be heading interstate to cover the Australian Drift Grand Prix in 2 weeks.

My gear list:

Lowepro backpack
5dmark2 gripped with 3 batteries
canon 17-40l
70-200mm sigma 2.8 for panning shots/drifting
canon 50mm 1.8 (not sure what for)
canon 24-70mm f.8
opteka 71" monopod
manfrotto 190xb with the standard pan/tilt head
yongnuo 565ex/canon 430ex (probably won't need these)

video gear- (plan to do a bit of recording for memories/wrap up vid)
opteka xgrip
opteka 23" and 47" slider
rode video mic with windshield
video tripod
go pro !

that's all i can remember.

Is there anything else I'll need for a good trip? :)

Sounds good to me! My 50mm rarely gets any use at any events, but takes up bugger all space, so it might as well stay in the bag.

I have thought the same about needing a flash before, but I've been surprised how often it comes in handy.

a 1.4x or 300mm would probably be a big help. I also shoot all my drifting stuff with a C/P, but that's a personal preference

~ Some L glass, some flashes, the usual

Mallala is a fairly spectator friendly circuit.
It's relatively easy to get good shots without needing credentials.
