Personally I'd get a Canon 100 f2.8 L macro as it's great for portraits as well as macro. But if you're not interested in shooting macro then maybe a 400 f2.8 IS L for longer reach. I would say there's not a great deal of difference between the two TBH. I haven't done much portrait stuff with the 70-200 yet but what I have done looks very similar. Obviously the macro comes into its own as you get closer specially under the 70-200 MFD but the 70-200 just keeps on surprising me with just how good it is every time I use it. Focuses fast enough and IQ is really good. With the ISO capabilities of the body, I'm happy with F4. If anything, I'll add a fast prime in that range as sometimes indoors even 2.8 is low. I'd recommend 17-40! Canon 5D Mark III, Canon SL1
