I have the above and it has a low shutter count in my opinion, but is there a way to confirm what the count is?

Cheers

The only way for sure is to send in to Canon for the 1D MkIII. I have tried using what several people say "works every time", with no success. I tried a few last night and it said that my 1D III only has 2600 shutter clicks on it. I know for a fact that is wrong because I've shot more than that in the past month alone.
If you have the time, just send it in to find out.

Maybe, maybe not. Very unreliable as image # can be easily reset in Menus.

You might give gPhoto2 a try. According to their site, the 1D3 is supported "in PTP mode" : http://gphoto.org/proj/libgphoto2/support.php (external link)
